In addition to our weekly television program, Caregiving and You is also a non-profit organization offering family caregivers and their loved ones several services including weekly support group meetings, grants and tangible items, burial assistance, a caregiver buddy program and weekly Broadway/Off-Broadway theater trips! Our organization also participates in caregiver advocacy and research efforts through partnerships with various universities and research focused organizations. Weekly Meetings – Each week, Caregiving and You provides a warm, supportive environment for family caregivers and their loved ones to gather and discuss their concerns and needs.
Advocacy and Research – Caregiving and You coordinates with fellow co-investigators at national research organizations and academic institutions for weekly committee meetings via phone and conferences held at various locations across the country. Our organization assists in caregiver survey development, research design and dissemination. Caregiving and You also participates in the evaluation of healthcare and caregiving related research proposals for funding, with a focus on proper fiscal management and patient centered outcomes. Other activities include attendance and making presentations at national healthcare conferences.
Grants and Tangible Items – Caregiving and You provides grants to family caregivers and their loved ones for utility payments and other emergency needs. Due to the financial burden of medical bills, traveling to medical appointments and lost wages for taking time off from work, caregivers and their loved ones often face financial hardships. In addition to cash grants, we also provide food, clothing, medical supplies, household items and toys for sick children. Caregiving and You also assist caregivers and patients in identifying and applying for government subsidies such as SNAP , Social Security and other Human Resources benefits.
Three Angels Program – family caregivers and patients often face the prospect of not being able to bury themselves or their loved ones. Our organization provides funeral and burial resources for low income and uninsured families.
Caregiver Buddy Program – family caregivers and their loved ones often feel shame, isolation and loneliness in their caregiving circumstances. Each week, through our “Caregiver Buddy Program,” our volunteers visit patients and their families, whether they are in a hospital, nursing care facility or sick and shut-in in their own homes.
Broadway and Off-Broadway Theater Trips – When providing care for a loved one, avoiding caregiver burnout is important! Often family caregivers do not take enough time for themselves, leaving them less equipt to provide care for their loved one. In response to the need for “care for the family caregiver," Caregiving and You escorts family caregivers and their loved ones to theater trips at exclusive venues and variety of Broadway Plays!
